I talked about this in another post but something SO VISUALLY INTERESTING I realized about Hobie’s final scene in ATSV.

Beginning with Miles’ line ‘My dad is about to be captain.’

The group - Gwen, Jess, Peter, and Hobie are all standing behind Miles as he faces Miguel.

But from this point forward, every time Hobie is portrayed, he is shown as separate from the other characters, always being divided from the group - with Miles as the divider.

Even as the camera moves and more Spider-people join the scene, Hobie visually remains - quite literally - as the only person in Miles’ corner. And as the scene goes on, he moves farther and farther into that corner.

Until finally the scene comes to a climax, and Hobie gets two shots to himself - delivering his final lines.

“Here we go.” - “Hobie, You’re not helping.” - “Good.”

This is Hobie seeing his work pay off. This is him knowing that he got through to Miles and that it was worth it. He’s proud of him.

When he says ‘Good,’ he’s not looking at Jess. Because he’s not talking to her, not really. He’s looking to Miles. He’s telling him this is good.

For the entirety of the scene leading up to Miles being trapped, Hobie is shown as the only one literally on Miles’ side, until finally in the last moments he is the only one to help Miles escape when he truly needs it.

Even in his final moments on screen the art team decided to show us that Hobie is the realest one in the room thats SO FUCKING CLEVER.

PSA: bot comments are taking over ao3

image

The above examples have been provided with the authors’ permission to demonstrate what these look like.

Basic rundown:

  • They are all 3 sentences long
  • Perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
  • Like absolutely flawless English teacher-style writing with only a single exclamation mark, ever
  • No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story
  • The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post

Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly

There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate

what fresh hell is this?

Shein is going down for being a criminal organization. Actors and Writers are striking. Student Loan debt relief may actually go through after all. Jack Smith is closing in on Trump, and all signs point to him dying in prison. Billionares are dying in ignoble and humiliating ways. Please God keep this ball rolling, it almost feels like the first taste of justice in about as long as I can remember.

🕸️ companies won’t guarantee fair wages, benefits, or good working conditions

🕸️ by undermining the strike, you’ll destroy your chances of being able to join a union if you continue to work in the industry after the strike

🕸️ companies see you as replaceable and they will try to test out methods to undermine your work that the union is fighting against such as labor theft, automation, and artificial intelligence

Withhold your labor and don’t cross the picket line

I think if a studio exec says they want to force you to starve to death so you’ll be made to accept garbage wages, you should crush them in a hydraulic press incredibly slowly

Like the fact that rich people have gotten to the point where they think they can just be like “oh yeah I’m literally trying to kill you” without fear of repercussions is beyond infuriating. They need to know what it feels like to be beaten to death by hammers.

Something REALLY interesting about this scene

image

At the beginning of the scene Miles confronts Gwen about the ‘small elite strike-team’ comment.

Gwen lies and plays it off, saying that most of them are part-time anyway.

IMMEDIATELY after that in the next line dialogue, Hobie confronts Gwen and asks her ’Gwendy, how much have you told him about his place in all this? - Maybe not enough.’

Hobie is expressioning disappointment towards Gwen. He doesn’t approve of her lying to Miles, knowing what’s gonna happen to him. He doesn’t agree with them keeping him in the dark - which is why later in the scene he says

'I haven’t gotten a Scooby Doo, mate. But that’s what they want.’

He’s warning Miles that they’re keeping in him the dark, on purpose.

ONCE AGAIN Hobie showing foward thinking and outwardly disapproving of the obviously unfair treatment that Miles is given. He’s not angry at Gwen, but he’s willing to tell her straight up that she’s not doing or telling Miles enough to protect him.

Miles deserved to know Miguel’s motives BEFORE meeting him. That’s why he pointed it out then.

He’s ALWAYS looking out for Miles
